Mordekai Fine Jewelry: RINGS story
For the first time in over 10 years, I am so excited to announce that Mordekai will now have the most fabulous fine jewelry line in the world!
as I looked around the market a fine jewelry I really noticed that so much of it is similar with the same clientele and lacking in novelty.
So I set out to create a collection that was delicious to the eye. I completed a program in the Gemological Institute of America and learned everything I could about diamonds and colored stones. Then I went to the jewelry district in downtown LA and began looking for (sourcing) stones in different colors and shapes to decide my direction. As the rainbow is such an iconic part of the Mordekai DNA, I decided to create a full collection of jewelry with heart shaped stones in the colors and order of the rainbow. I originally explored this theme with the high fashion jewelry. I designed a variety of pieces made of oversize rainbow colored heart stones, so it was very exciting to transform it into the fine jewelry version.
Next I worked with Jack, a designer and a 3-D printer and began designing my rings. I wanted to explore eternity rings as they signify forever. I designed two versions, one as a full eternity of 16 stones, and one with half eternity so eight stones and the rest of the shank is a column of hearts. This design was then 3-D printed and wax and then was cast by my caster Edgar in 14 karat gold.
As for the stones I decided on the following gem stones: Red Garnet, Orange Sapphire, Yellow Sapphire, Peridot, Blue Topaz, Blue Sapphire, Amethyst, and Pink Tourmaline. Once the ring was cast and polished, my setter Minas set all the stones in this order.
so at this point I had one eternity rainbow heart ring and 1/2 eternity rainbow heart ring. I then designed another version that had each color as a double stone so a double rainbow ring. I also created two eternity rings with 2 half carat diamonds (instead of the pink tourmaline). Read on to the next blog to learn about how I made the necklace, bracelet and earrings.
